All party talks to resume next month – Reeko Manik

25 December 2007
Report: Jaxlee

All Party talks are to resume next month, the interim leader of MSDP Reeko Ibrahim Manik has said. In an interview given the previous night o Miadhu Daily, Reeko said that there had been positive outcome from these talks although the talks are at a halt as the Special majlis members are on vacation. “Things I have talked there and issues addressed there had been passed at the Special Majlis. I believe that good changes have been brought to the constitution” Said the MSDP leader who usually has the same thinking as DRP in most political problems.

But the leader of Islamic Democratic Party (IDP) Umar Naseer said that even good matters have not been discussed there and nothing had been achieved.

“I don’t believe that there had been any out comes from any discussions. That’s why we parted from the party talks later. Not to get engaged in useless talks” Umar Naseer said.

Umar said that there had been no response from the government to the request from IDP to distribute the selected members to Sp. Majlis members equally among all parties.

“Although there were parties who supported our request, the President did not answer to that. It means he doesn’t want that” umar said.

He further said that these discussions which were being carried out without the government responding to the parties’ requests was just a show off to the out side world.

Adhaalathu Party president Sheikh Hussain Rasheed said that although there had not been such a positive outcome from these discussions, the constitution is being shaped in the way they want. He said that he doesn’t believe that a particular party dominates the Sp. Majlis.

MDP who refused to take part in the party talks said that they refused to the invitation as they don’t believe that the coordinator of the discussions, Mohamed Zahir is an independent person.

Presidential Spokes person recently said that most positive outcome is impossible without MDP taking part in the talks.
