Chief Government Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef, Mundhu, has said that it is quite all right to have a foreign spokesperson to brief the foreign media at the Government Information Press Services, GIPS that is being set up under the Information Ministry. GIPS when established will take over the function of Strategic Communications Unit of the President unit.
Speaking to Velidhoo News, Mundhu said that government on a number of occasions has appointed foreign nationals to government posts. Mundhu also said that to appoint a capable, experienced foreign spokesperson to deal with foreign press would be better.
“We have a number of Maldivians who can take on the job, its not that there no capable people to fill the post, however it would be better to have an experienced expert to deal with foreign; an expert will various tactics to deal with press of different countries; some may not be satisfied to have a foreigner working as a government spokesperson but the fact there are many foreigners working as government officials” explained Mundhu.
Mundhu also noted that by hiring a foreign spokesperson the government expense will also be cut down.
He also said the decision of the Information Minister to appoint a foreign spokesperson at GIPS was reached after due consideration.
Chief Spokesperson of MDP Maria Ahmed Didi, said that MDP does not welcome the idea especially when there are many Maldivians capable of taking the job. She also expressed her dissatisfaction that government has appointed foreign nationals to represent Maldives in various missions.
“When you employ a foreigner to that post it is a lost opportunity to a local, MDP’s policy is provide a bright future to every Maldivian” said Maria.
She also questioned why the government is assigning the post to a foreigner as the position was held by a local since it was introduced.
Maria also expressed her doubts as to whether the government expense will be reduced on hiring of a foreign spokesperson.
IDP, Islamic Democratic Party, Spokesperson Yousuf Zuhury said the government is taking a wise decision.
“When the foreign Spokesperson talks about Maldives he will have no love for the country in his heart” said Zuhury IDP spokesperson.
Zuhury also said “At this rate we have foreigners as officers in the National Defense Force”.
Top lawyer Ahmed Muiz said “In the absence of a qualified Maldivianfor the post, a foreigner may be hired, but certainly expense will not come down”.
Male’ MP Ibrahim Isamil, Ibra, said this typical move of President Gayoom’s government and said “In my government things would be different”.
Information Ministry has said that the ministry is considering appointing two government spokespersons, one to deal with foreign media and the other to deal with local media.

Dr. Hassan Saeed Deputy Leader of Divehi Rahyithunge Party, DRP, after quitting his job as party Deputy Leader, has quit the party as well.
Dr. Hassan Saeed, who resigned from the President Gayoom’s cabinet last August resigned from DRP some time yesterday. Velidhoo News has received a copy of his resignation letter.
In his resignation letter sent to the Leader of DRP, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, Dr. Hassan Saeed wrote the decision to suspend him from the meetings of the Executive Council, was a breech of the party pertinent regulations.
Dr Hassan Saeed wrote”and by violating the Party regulations, you have shown your apparent disregard to the sentiments of the party members, I, therefore submit my resignation, effective today, from the party Deputy Leader and from the party as well”.

Ex Tourism Minister Dr. Musthafaa Luthufee has revealed that he is working on forming a political party.
He made the statement while answering a question from Velidhoo News. Musthafaa Luthufee said that the main aim of forming a political party is to introduce new faces to the political circle as well as to provide the opportunity for those who have not joined any party to do so. He also said that the party once formed would make alliances with other political parties and work together to bring reform to the country.
“Our aim is to introduce new faces to the political circle, and to provide the opportunity for all those who have not yet joined any party, to do so and form close alliances with other parties and to work together to bring reform to this country” Musthafaa told Velidhoo News.
When asked if he intends to compete in the coming presidential elections of 2008 if his party is registered on time, and who are main personalities working with him to form the party, Musthafaa replied that Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik and Dr. Mohamed Ali are included in the list.
He added that if the party is registered on time for the elections and after considering the political situation prevalent at that time, the party would consider competing in the election of 2008.

Leader of Maldivian Social Liberal Party, MSLP, Ibrahim Ismail, Ibra, has said that he submitted the necessary documentation for the registration of MSLP to the Office of the Commissioner of Elections on the 18 of last month.
Providing further information, Ibra said the documentations submitted to Commissioner had to be amended and revised three to four times on instructions from the Commissioner.
“We are waiting for a response from the Commissioner, as per the regulations we have to wait for their response, we submitted the documentation late last month, but several revisions were made as requested by the Commissioner, we do not think there will any more revisions to make” said Ibra.
Ibra told Velidhoo News that he will consider joining the presidential race once his party gets registered.
According to Ibra his party will work with an agenda that will be acceptable and beneficial to the people. He said his aim is not to increase party membership but to establish a system which would be beneficial to all people.

MDP wins majority in IDC elections - MDP

Maldivian Democratic Party, MDP, has revealed in the elections of Island Development Committees, IDC, held in the atolls on 27 of this month, a clear majority was won by the party members.
According to MDP, majority of the candidates who competed in the election IDC were MDP members. The party says that many of them won their seats in IDC. Although MDP did not officially compete in the elections, the party says that 60% of the elected IDC seats are won by MDP members.
The independent Committee charged with overseeing of the election said that more than 3400 candidates competed in the elections that were held in all inhabited islands of the country. According to the Committee 184 IDC comprising a total 1500 members will be elected.
Although MDP says that the party has a majority in the IDC no other party has made any comment.
Staff transfer to new resorts causes many difficulties

Tourism Minister Dr. Mahmoud Shaugy has said that with the opening of every new resort the problem of migration of Maldivians to that resort will surface.
Speaking to Miadhu on the 29 of this month Dr. Shaugy says he has information that 28 Maldivian resort employees have quit their jobs. He said that this is first time he received such information in the past two months. Every time a new resort opens these issues will crop up; we have faced these issues when W Resort Four Season opened said Minister Shaugy.
“On the 27 of this month I got information that 28 employees quit their jobs and joined another resort, I will not mention names here, many are the joining the new resorts that being developed, this includes resorts Haa Alifu and Haa Dhaalu,it is likely that employees are getting jobs elsewhere as they are offered better pay package” said Dr. Shaugy.
Minister Shaugy noted that this problem will get worse in the coming years.
“Many of the employees who work in resorts of Kaafu Atoll are mostly from Addu, when resorts in that atoll opens it is obvious that many of them would jobs in those resorts as they would want to work close to their family and friends, the problem here is not of employees transferring but the problems faced in filling the vacant slot, the problem here is getting experienced trained people, many job opportunities are being opened in a short time, but not enough people are applying to get these jobs” explained Dr. Shaugy.
Rejecting the claims made by many that they offer training in tourism related fields, he noted the decreasing number of people who join the courses held by Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies. He said that many reasons for the decline.
“One reason may be that as the resort is an isolated and secluded place many are not keen to take up employment although we try to convince them that resort jobs have a future too” said Dr. Shaugy.
Expressing his doubts that enough has been trained to take up positions in the new resorts, he said discussions with Higher Education and Employment Ministry will take place soon.
“Resorts are a huge investment and a solution has to sought for the shortage of Maldivian employees to work in these resorts, I will work to find a solution, if we have to close resorts due to shortage Maldivians to work in these resort then it will be very sad” said Tourism Minister.

Adhaalath will not back Maumoon – Sheikh Hussain

President Adhaalath Party Sheikh Hussain Rashed Ahmed has said that Adhaalath would not support President Maumoon in the coming presidential election of 2008.
He made statement while answering a question from Miadhu whether Adhaalath would elect a presidential candidate and if not would they support President Gayoom in the elections of 2008.
“I can only comment on the presidential elections once the constitutional reform is completed, but I can say this for sure, Adhaalath will not back President Maumoon on any issue, if he say some thing good we will accept it however we will not support Maumoon in the coming presidential election” said Sheikh Hussain Rasheed .
Asked whether he sees anybody among the presidential candidates list going around, who can remove President Maumoon from the top post Sheikh Hussain says the thinking of people of Maldives have been shaped by President Maumoon for the last 30 years and all the opposition leaders must put up a united front in order to achieve that goal. Sheikh also expressed his confidence that if all opposition leaders stand united they can remove President Maumoon from the top post.
“People’s thinking have been shaped by Maumoon for the last 30 years; they are many who really hate Maumoon and if all parties have work together and present one candidate then by the grace of Allmighty Allah we can bring an end to Maumoon’s rule” said Adhaalath’s President.
He further said if the parties were to compete separately it would mean divisions within the people. Sheikh noted that in such a scenario those supporters of President Maumoon would bring their own interests forward, would do anything to keep him in power.
Sheikh Hussain Rasheed Ahmed, Adhaalath Party’s President however declined to say whether the party would compete in the elections of 2008.

The 3 party panel discussions hosted by Al Jazeera, a multi language satellite news channel, held on last Friday at Henveiru Aazaadhuge the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party, MDP and the ruling Dhivehi Rayithunge Party, DRP have expressed similar views.
The discussions held at Aazaadhuge were participated by MDP Chairperson Mohamed Nasheed, Anni, Mohamed Nasheed Information Minister on behalf of DRP and Umar Naseer President of Islamic Democratic Party IDP.
IDP President Umar Naseer given an interview to local news paper Miadhu that the discussions were mainly on the current political situation in the country and the ongoing reform age agenda.
According to Umar, the two main parties want to introduce a liberal democracy to Maldives but IDP supports a democracy based on Islamic principles.
“The panel looked at President Maumoon’s reform agenda, including the recent religious extremism that has surfaced and various political changes to our society” say Umar.
According to Umar, IDP and the other two parties, DRP and MDP differed in opinion on the form of democracy the country needs.
“DRP and MDP wants a liberal democracy what IDP want is a democracy within the boundaries of Islam” said Umar IDP president.
“When they talk about a liberal democracy, what I can picture is the type democracy you have in western countries” Umar told Miadhu.
The main opposition leader, Anni, told Miadhu that IDP’s Umar is of the opinion that most of the disturbances in our society would be solved by strict action.
“The panel discussion were based the reform agenda and the recent changes that we are facing, in a broader context” said Anni.
MDP does not agree with IDP’s views on the form of democracy they would like to set up says MDP chairperson Anni.

Information Minister Mohamed Nasheed has said that the decision of Dr. Hassan Saeed, ex Attorney General to challenge President Maumoon in the forthcoming presidential election does not raise any serious threats to Prsident’s Maumoon’s campaign. Minister Nasheed made the statement in an interview given to a private radio service The FM.
Dr. Hassan Saeed in an interview to The Independent, a tabloid newspaper of UK, has said that he will stand for presidential elections scheduled next year. Many political analysts believe that it might be serious threat to President Maumoon’s bid to win another term in office.
Information Minister Nasheed speaking on The FM said that it is the right of any citizen who full fills the pre requisites stipulated in the Constitution to compete in the elections and that any one exercising that right cannot be considered a threat to President Maumoon. Nasheed however did not agree with some of the statements made by Dr. Hassan Saeed to The Independent.
“Some of things Dr. Hassan Saeed said are not quite true, we are not happy that the sources who published this information as they did not obtain government views, government is considering in informing these sources the facts concerning Dr. Hassan Saeed’s comments” said Information Minister.
Dr. Hassan Saeed had claimed that the actual architects of the president’s reform agenda was ex Justice Minister Mohamed Jameel, ex Foreign Minister Ahmed Shaheed and himself and that with their resignation reform agenda had failed.
Information Minister Nasheed rejects the claims by saying that it would be a mistake to believe that the trio was the main architects.
Nasheed pointed out that reform agenda was initiated by President Maumoon in 2003, following the death of convict Evan Naseem in Maafushi Jail. Nasheed said the reform agenda initiated with Presidents consultation with the public between period that followed Evan’s death and the Presidential elections that was held soon afterward.
Information Minister said that even in the victory speech given by President Maumoon on wining the presidency in 2003, President Maumoon had outlined his intention to bring reform to five areas of the government. Dr.Hassan Saeed joined the cabinet that was formed immediately after President’s victory in 2003 noted Nasheed. Nasheed further pointed out that Dr. Shaheed and Jameel joined the cabinet approximately a year and a half later.
“This is President Maumoon’s vision, Abdulla Shahid, current Foreign Minister who was then the president’s executive secretary, worked closely with president in formulating the reform agenda” said Nasheed.
Nasheed admitted that the trio had worked on some important areas of the reform agenda but pointed that they were only doing their job during their time in office.
Speaking on BBC, Dr. Hassan Saeed has said that President Maumoon is taking action on the growing Islamic extremism in the country without considering the origins and the reasons for the extremism. Dr. Hassan claimed that he presented the President with an action plan compiled by him on tackling the issue of extremism and that the government failed to implement the action plan.
Minister Nasheed speaking on The FM said that action plan was not Dr. Hassan’s brain child.
“Dr. Hassan Saeed was the Chair of a Committee formed by the President Maumoon to tackle issues arising out of differences in religious opinion and to protect the religious unity of the country; the committee presented their views in the form of an action plan; it includes measures that requires long term planning, measures that can be implemented in the near future, and measures that can be implemented immediately; religion is a very delicate issue in Maldives and such it requires prudence and patience “ said Nasheed.
Minister Nasheed also pointed out although the Committee chaired by Dr. Hassan Saeed submitted an action plan; the government is not required to act upon it immediately.

During the past 7 years unemployment rate has gone up from 10 to 14% shows a report compiled by Planning Ministry. The report indicates that 40% of women do not work to earn livelihood in the age group between 15 to 25 years.
Although the report titled Millennium Development Goals, MDG, 2007 released by Planning Ministry, indicate an increase in the percentage of number of parties active in the labor market between year1997 to year 2004, unemployment rate for this period jumped from 10 to 14 %.
The report indicates, of the 14% unemployed, 40% of women between the age group of 15 to 24 years are unemployed and 20 % men are unemployed in this age group.
The report indicates that Maldives have already achieved the MDG target of halving the percentage of those earning less than one Dollar per day in 1997 by year 2015. With regard to poverty the report indicates considerable increase in earnings between year1997 to year 2004.
The average earning of a household in atolls have increased by 50% for the period between 1997 to 2004 while an average household earnings in Male’ increased by two folds.
In eradicating extreme poverty from atolls and in Male’ the challenges faced in affording equal opportunity must be overcome notes the report. One of the solutions provided in the report to over such challenges is expediting the population consolidation policy. The report also notes the importance of allocating necessary funds in government to achieve it.
A survey conducted in 1994 shows 43% of child population in under weight. The same survey conducted in 2004 as part of the survey on Vulnerability and Poverty showed 27% of the child population is below the recommended weight for the age group. MDP Chairperson Mohamed Nasheed, Anni, has said that the opportunity to become the MDP Presidential candidate is still open to ex Attorney General Dr. Hassan Saeed.
Given an interview to Miadhu he said Dr. Hassan Saeed by joining MDP and by successfully wining the presidential election of the party can be the MDP presidential candidate. He further said that any member of MDP by wining the presidential election of the party can be the presidential candidate representing the party.
Anni further said that MDP is a member’s party and as such affairs of the party is conducted according to party member’s wishes. “Chairperson of the party has no authority to make any decision on such major issues” said Anni.
“I will not welcome any particular member; I will respect the decision of party members, I will not discriminate any member, it will be decided by MDP members” said Anni , MDP Chairperson.
Anni noted that MDP from top to bottom are all reformists and that party’s door is open to anyone working to bring reform to the country.
Chairperson, Anni , told Miadhu, that it is not too late to choose a presidential candidate to represent the party and that he does not believe in having a long gap between choosing party presidential candidate and the presidential elections scheduled for 2008.
“I believe we should wait for the revised constitution to get Majils approval and when the government fixes the date for multiparty elections we can start from there; then we choose a presidential candidate: Dr. Hassan Saeed has said that he will compete in the elections, we welcome him, we will welcome all who are interested in standing for the election” said Anni.
To confirm the story that Dr. Hassan Saeed may join MDP, Miadhu tried to contact him but he could not be reached.

MDP President Mohamed Munawar has said that it is not late at all to choose a Presidential Candidate to represent MDP.
He made the statement to Velidhoo news speaking on the recent comments carried on media that MDP’s failure to decide on the party’s presidential candidate is affecting the party’s powerful image and its strength.
“It is not late at all; we are going forward according to party policies; what is important to MDP is its policies instead of promoting one person; I believe that it is more important to declare party policies” said MDP president.
Dr. Munawar further said that the hearing of the court case of KD Ahmed Manik, Commissioner of Elections started too late and if the Maldives is going to adopt presidential system of government then trial of KD Ahmed Manik is pointless.
“We will decide on party presidential candidate after constitutional reform is completed and when the issues related to referendum on system of government is solved” said Dr. Munawar.
Dr. Munawar told Velidhoo news that Dr. Hassan Saeed can join MDP and be a presidential contender.
Asked if the presidential system will affect party regulations, Dr. Munawar said regulations governing the party are not based on a particular system however changes will have made to MDP structure reflect the ongoing constitutional reforms.Saturday, October 27, 2007

ޔާމީން ވިދާޅުވީ ތިރީސް އަހަރުވަންދެން ރާއްޖޭގައި ވެރިކަންކޮށްފައިވާތީ ބައެއް ދިވެހިން މައުމޫނާއި މެދު ރުޅިވެރިގޮތަކަށް ދެކެމުން ދިޔަނަމަވެސް, އޭނާގެ ބޭބެއަށްވުރެ އެކަމަށް އެކަށީގެންވާ ބޭފުޅަކު ރާއްޖޭގައި ނެތްކަމަށެވެ. ޔާމީން އިތުރަށް ވިދާޅުވީ އޭނާގެ ބޭބެ މައުމޫނުގެ މަގުޗާޓުގެ މަސައްކަތުގައި ހިމެނޭ އިސްލާހީ މަސައްކަތްތައް ލަސްވެގެން ދިޔުމަކީ, ހަމައެކަނި ރައީސް މައުމޫނުގެ އިސްތަށިފުޅުގައި އަޅުވަންޖެހޭނެކަމެއް ނޫންކަމަށާއި, މިކަމުގެ ޒިންމާ ހުރިހާ ސިޔާސީ ޕާޓީތަކުންވެސް ނަގަންޖެހޭނެ ކަމަށެވެ
އޭޕްރީލް މަހު ވަޒީރުކަމުން އިސްތިއުފާދެއްވުމަށް ފަހު އަދި ޑީއާރުޕީންވެސް އިސްތިއުފާދެއްވައި މަޖުލީހުގައި ސަރުކާރާދެކޮޅަށް އެތައް ކަމެއް ކުރައްވަމުން ކުރިޔަށް ވަޑައިގެންނެވި ޔާމީން ދެއްވި ބަސްދީގަތުމުގައި ވިދާޅުވީ އާންމު ރައްޔިތެއްގެ ހައިސިއްޔަތުން އޭނާ ރައީސް މައުމޫނަށް ތާއީދު ކުރައްވަނީ މައުމޫނުގެ ވެރިކަމުގައި ހުރި ހަރުދަނާކަމާއި, ރައީސްގެ ހަރުދަނާ ޑިމޮކްރެޓިކް އުސޫލުތަކެއްގެ ސަބަބުން ކަމަށެވެ
ޔާމީނު ވަނީ އެމަނިކުފާނުގެ ޖަމްއިއްޔާ ޕީޕަލްސް އެސޯސިއެޝަން މި މަހުގެ ތެރޭގައި ސިޔާސީ ޕާޓީއަކަށް ހައްދަވާނެ ކަމަށް އިއުލާން ކުރައްވާފަ އެވެ. މިކަމާ ބައެއް ސިޔާސީ ޕާޓީތަކުން ޖެހިލުންވެފައިވާ ދަނޑިވަޅެއްގައި ޔާމީނު ވިދާޅުވީ އަންނަ ރިޔާސީ އިންތިހާބުގައި އެޕާޓީގެ ފަރާތުން ބޭފުޅަކު ކުރިމަތި ނުލުންވެސް އެކަށީގެންވާ ކަމަށެވެ

މޯލްޑިވްސް މަނިޓަރީ އޮތޯރިޓީ (އެމްއެމްއޭ) މިނިވަން މުސްތަގިއްލުކުރުމަށް ފާސްކޮށްފައިވާ ގާނޫނުގެ ދަށުން ހިންގުމަށް ޓަކައި އަލުން އެކުލަވާލާ ބޯޑުގައި ފިނޭންސް މިނިސްޓަރު ނުހިމެނުމަށް އެޓާނީ ޖެނެރަލް އޮފީހުން ލަފާދީފައިވާ ކަމަށް އިތުބާރު ހުރި ފަރާތަކުން މިއަދު ބުނެފި އެވެ
ނޫހުގައި ނަން ނުޖެހުމަށް އެދި ވާހަކަ ދެއްކި ބޭފުޅަކު ވިދާޅުވީ ސެންޓަރަލް ބޭންކުގެ ބޯޑުގެ މެމްބަރެއްގެ ގޮތުގައި ފިނޭންސް މިނިސްޓަރު ގާސިމް އިބްރާހީމް ހިމެނުމަށް ނުފެންނަ ކަމަށް އެޓާނީ ޖެނެރަލް އޮފީހުން ލަފާ ދީފައިވަނީ އެ ކަމަކީ ގާނޫނުގެ ރޫހާ ހިލާފުކަމެއް ކަމަށް ފާހަގަކުރެވޭތީ ކަމަށެވެ
” ގާނޫނުގެ ބޭނުމަކީ ވީހާވެސް މިނިވަން މުސްތަގިއްލުކޮށް އެމްއެމްއޭ ހިންގުން. މިނިސްޓަރު ބޯޑުގައި އިންނަވާ ނަމަ މިނިވަން ކަމާއެކު ބޯޑުގެ މަސައްކަތް ކުރުމަށް ހުރަކަށް ވެދާނެ. އަނެއްކާ ގާނޫނުގެ ރޫހަކީ ވެސް މިނިސްޓަރު އެ ބޯޑުގައި ނުހިމެނުން,“ ކުރިން ވާހަކަ ދެއްކެވި ބޭފުޅާ ވިދާޅުވި އެވެ
އެޓާނީ ޖެނެރަލް އޮފީހުގެ ލަފާ އެމްއެމްއޭ އަށް ދީފައިވަނީ އެމްއެމްއޭ އިން އެކަމަށް އެދުމުން މީގެ ދުވަސްކޮޅެއްކުރިން ކަމަށް ވެއެވެ. ޖަޒީރާ އަށް އެނގިފައިވާގޮތުގައި އެމްއެމްއޭ އަށް ލިބުނު ލަފާގެ މައުލޫމާތު މިހާރު ވަނީ ރައީސް އޮފީހަށް ހުށަހަޅާފަ އެވެ
ގާނޫނީ ވަކީލުންނާއި ރައްޔިތުންގެ މަޖިލީހުގެ ގިނަ މެމްބަރުން ވަނީ އެމްއެމްއޭ ބޯޑުގައި ފިނޭންސް މިނިސްޓަރު ހިމެނުއްވުމަކީ ގާނޫނުގެ ރޫހާ ހިލާފުކަމެއް ކަމަށް ވިދާޅުވެފަ އެވެ
ބޯޑުގައި ފިނޭންސް މިނިސްޓަރު ހިމެނުއްވުމާ ބެހޭ ގޮތުން ލަފައަކަށް އެދުނުކަމެއް ނުވަތަ ނޫން ކަމެއް ވެސް އެމްއެމްއޭއިން ނުބުނެ އެވެ. އަދި އެޓާނީ ޖެނެރަލް އޮފީހުން ވެސް ވަނީ އެ ކަމާ ބެހޭ ގޮތުން ވާހަކަ ދައްކަން ބޭނުން ނޫން ކަމަށް ބުނެފަ އެވެ
އާ ގާނޫނުގައިވާ ގޮތުން އެމްއެމްއޭގެ ޑިރެކްޓަރުންގެ ބޯޑު އެކުލެވިގެން ވަނީ ހަތް މެންބަރުންގެ މައްޗަށެވެ. އެއީ ގަވަރުނަރާއި ޑެޕިއުޓީ ގަވަރުނަރާއި އޮތޯރިޓީގެ އިކޮނޮމިކް ރިސާޗް އެންޑް ސްޓެޓިސްޓިކްސް ދާއިރާ އިން ނުވަތަ އޮތޯރިޓީގެ ފައިނޭންޝަލް ސެކްޓަ ދާއިރާ އިން މީހަކާ ފިނޭންސް މިނިސްޓްރީގެ އެގްޒެކެޓިވް ޑިރެކްޓަރަކަށްވުރެ މަތީ ފެންވަރެއްގެ މުވައްޒިފަކާއި ފިނޭންސް ފިޔަވައި ސަރުކާރުގެ އިގްތިސާދީ ދާއިރާ އިން އައްޔަންކުރާ މީހަކާއި ސަރުކާރުގެ އޮފީހެއް ނުވަތަ ސަރުކާރުގެ ކުންފުންޏެއް ތަމްސީލް ނުކުރާ ޕްރައިވެޓް ސެކްޓަރުގައި, އިގްތިސާދީ ކަންތައްތަކުގައި އިސްކޮށް ހަރަކާތްތެރިވާ ތަޖުރިބާ ހުރި ގާބިލު މީހުންގެ ތެރެއިން އައްޔަންކުރެވޭ ދެ މީހެކެވެ. ނަމަވެސް އެމްއެމްއޭގެ ޑެޕިއުޓީ ގަވަރުނަރަކަށް ހުށަހެޅުއްވި އަބްދުލް ޣަފޫރުގެ ނަން މަޖިލީހުން ފާސް ނުވުމުން އެ މަގާމަށް އަދި ބޭފުޅަކު ހަމައެއް ނުޖެހެ އެވެ
އެމްއެމްއޭ ގާނޫނުގެ ” ހަ ވަނަ މާއްދާގެ ދެ އެއްގެ (ރ) ގައި ބުނެފައިވަނީ މިނިސްޓްރީ އޮފް ފިނޭންސް އެންޑް ޓްރެޜަރީން ހުށަހަޅާނީ އެ މިނިސްޓްރީގެ އެގްޒެކްޓިވް ޑިރެކްޓަރަކަށްވުރެ މަތީގެ ފެންވަރުގެ މުވައްޒަފެއް“ ކަމަށެވެ. ގާނޫނުގައި އެގޮތަށް ބަޔާންކޮށްފައިވަނިކޮށް ފިނޭންސް މިނިސްޓްރީން ހުށަހަޅާފައިވަނީ މިނިސްޓަރުގެ ނަންފުޅެވެ
އެމްއެމްއޭ އިންކުރިން ބުނެފައިވަނީ ހަތް ބޭފުޅުންގެ މައްޗަށް އެކުލެވޭ އެމްއެމްއޭ ބޯޑުގެ މެމްބަރުންގެގޮތުގައި ބޭފުޅުން ހަމަޖެއްސުމަށް ހުށަހެޅި ނަންފުޅުތަކުގައި އިތުރު ވަޒީރަކު ހިމެނިވަޑައިނުގަންނަވާނެކަމަށާއި ފިނޭންސް މިނިސްޓްރީ ފިޔަވާ އެހެން ދާއިރާތަކުން މީހުން އައްޔަނު ކުރުމުގެ އިހުތިޔާރު ގަވަރނަރަށް ލިބިގެންވާ ކަމަށެވެ
އާ ގާނޫނުގައިވާ ގޮތުން އެމްއެމްއޭގެ ޑިރެކްޓަރުންގެ ބޯޑުގެ މެންބަރުން އައްޔަންކޮށް ވަކިކުރާނީ ގަވަރުނަރުގެ ލަފައާ އެކު ރައީސުލްޖުމްހޫރިއްޔާ އެވެ. ޑިރެކްޓަރުންގެ ބޯޑަށް ޑިރެކްޓަރުން އައްޔަން ކުރެވޭނީ ފަސް އަހަރު ދުވަހުގެ މުއްދަތަށެވެ
ދީނީ ގޮތުން ހައްދުފަހަނަ އަޅާފައިވާ މީހުން މައިތިރިކުރުމަށް ހުށަހެޅި ޕްލޭނަކީ ޑރ.ހަސަން އެކުލަވާލި އެއްޗެއް ނޫން: އިންފޮމޭޝަން މިނިސްޓަރު

ދީނީ ގޮތުން ހައްދުފަހަނަޅާފައިވާ މީހުން މައިތިރި ކުރުމަށް ސަރުކާރަށް ހުށަހެޅި ޕްލޭނަކީ ޑރ.ހަސަން ސައީދު އެކުލަވާލި އެއްޗެއް ނޫން ކަމަށް މިހާރުގެ އިންފޯމޭޝަން މިނިސްޓަރ މުހައްމަދު ނަޝީދު ވިދާޅުވެއްޖެ އެވެ
މުހައްމަދު ނަޝީދު ބުރާސްފަތި ދުވަހު ދިއެފްއެމްއަށް ދެއްވި އިންޓަވިއުއެއްގައި ވިދާޅުވީ ހައްދުފަހަނަޅާފައިވާ މީހުންގެ ހަރަކާތްތައް ހުއްޓުވުމަށް ރައީސް އިސްނަންގަވައިގެން އެކުލަވާލި ކޮމެޓީއެއްގެ ރިޔާސަތު ޑރ.ހަސަން ބެލެހެއްޓެވި ނަމަވެސް އެ ޕްލޭން އެކުލަވާލާފައިވަނީ ހަސަނު ނޫން ކަމަށެވެ
” ފުރަތަމަ ކަމަކީ އެއީ ޑރ.ހަސަން ސައީދު އެކުލަވާލި ޕްލޭނެއްނޫން. ރާއްޖޭގައި ދީނީ އެކި މައްސަލަތަކާ ގުޅިގެން ހިޔާލުތަފާތުވުންތައް އުފެދެމުންދާތީ ރައީސްގެ އިސްނެންގުވުމަކަށް ރައީސް އެކުލަވާލި ކޮމެޓީއެއްގެ ރިޔާސަތާ ހަސަން ސައީދު ހަވާލުވެ ވަޑައިގަތީ“ ނަޝީދު ދިއެފްއެމްގައި ބުރާސްފަތި ދުވަހު ވިދާޅުވި އެވެ
ނަޝީދު ވިދާޅުވީ ހަސަނުގެ ރިޔާސަތުގެ ދަށުން އެކޮމެޓީން ސަރުކާރަށް ޕްލޭނެއް ހުށަހެޅި ކަމަށާއި އެޕްލޭނުގައިވާ ކަންތައްތަކަށް މިހާރު އަމަލުކުރަމުންދާ ކަމަށްވެސް ނަޝީދުވަނީ ވިދާޅުވެފަ އެވެ
” އެޕްލޭނުގައި އެބަހުރި ވަރަށް ދިގުރާސްތާއަށް ކުރެވޭނެ ކަންތައްތަކާއި, މެދުރާސްތާއަށް ކުރެވޭނެ ކަންތައްތައްވެސް. މިހާރުން މިހާރަށް ކުރެވެން ހުރި ކަންތަކުގެ ތެރޭގައިވެސް އެބަހުރި އިތުރު ފިޔަވަޅު އަޅައިގެން ނޫނީ ނުކުރެވޭނެ ކަންތައްތަކެއް.“ އެޕްލޭނަށް އަމަލުކުރަމުންދާ ކަމަށްބުނެ ނަޝީދު ވިދާޅުވި އެވެ
” އަޅުގަނޑަށް ހީވާ ގޮތުގައި ހަމަ އެޕްލޭނުގައި ހުރިކަންތައްތައްވެސް ނުވަތަ އެ ބޭފުޅުން ހުށަހެޅުއްވި ކަންތައްތަކުގެ ތެރެއިންވެސް ކުރެންވެންހުރި ކަންތައްތަކަށް އެދަނީ ފިޔަވަޅު އަޅުއްވަމުން. އާންމުންނަށް ފެންނަ ހިސާބުގައާއި ނުފެންނަ ހިސާބުގަވެސް“
ނަޝީދު އިތުރަށް ވިދާޅުވީ ސަރުކާރުން މީގެ ދުވަސްތަކެއްކުރިން ނިއުމޯލްޑިވްސްގެ ތިން ވަޒީރުން އިސްތިއުފާދިނުމަށްފަހު އިސްލާހީ ޕްރޮގްރާމަކީ އެބޭފުޅުން އެކުލަވާލާފައިވާ އެއްޗެއްކަމަށް ބުނަމުންދާ ދިއުމަކީވެސް ގަބޫލުކުރެވޭނެ ކަމެއް ނޫން ކަމަށާއި އެހެންނަމަވެސް އެ މަސައްކަތުގެވެސް އިސްދައުރެއް އެ ތިން ބޭފުޅުން އަދާކުރެއްވި ކަމަށާއި ނަމަވެސް އިސްލާހީ އެޖެންޑާގެ އިސްދައުރެއް އަދާކޮށްފައިވަނީ މިހާރުގެ ފޮރިން މިނިސްޓަރ އަބުދުﷲ ޝާހިދު ކަމަށް ނަޝީދު ވަނީ ވިދާޅުވެފަ އެވެ

”ޕާޓީން އެދެނީ ސަރުކާރުގެ މުވައްޒަފުން ސިޔާސީ ނުފޫޒުން އެއްކިބާވެ ތިބެ މުވައްޒަފުންގެ މެދުގައި އަދުލުވެރިކަމާއެކު ކަންކަން ކުރެވޭނެ ބައެއް ދިވެހި ސިވިލްސަރވިސްއާ ހަވާލުވެ ތިބުމަށް. އަދި ދިވެހި ރައްޔިތުންނަށް ސިޔާސީ ނުފޫޒުން އެއްކިބާވެ ތިބެ ޚިދްމަތް ކޮށްދޭނެ ބަޔަކަށް ދިވެހި ސިވިލްސަރވިސް ހެދުމަށް,“ އެމްޑީޕީގެ ބަޔާނުގައި އިތުރަށް ބުނެފައިވެ އެވެ
އެމްޑީޕީން ބުނީ އެޕާޓީގެ ޕާލަމެންޓްރީ ގްރޫޕްގެ މެމްބަރުން ތިބީ ރައްޔިތުންނަށް މުހިންމު މިފަދަ ކޮންމެ ކަމަކު މަޖިލީހުގެ ރައީސް ޖަލްސާއަކަށް ކޮންމެ ވަގުތަކު ގޮވާލެއްވިޔަސް އެގޮވައިލެއްވުމަށް އިޖާބަދިނުމަށް ތައްޔާރަށް ކަމަށެވެ. އަދި ރައްޔިތުންގެ ވަކީލުންގެ ގޮތުގައި ހުވާކުރައްވައިގެން ތިއްބަވައިގެން ރައްޔިތުންގެ މަސްލަހަތަށްވުރެ އަމިއްލަ މަސްލަހަތު ކުރިއަށް ނެރުއްވާ މަސައްކަތް ކުރެއްވުމަށް ޑީ.އާރް.ޕީ ގެ މެމްބެރުންނަށާއި ރައީސް މައުމޫނަށް އެމް.ޑީ.ޕީ ޕާލަމެންޓްރީ ގްރޫޕުގެ ބަޔާނުގައި އިލްތިމާސް ކޮށްފައިވެ އެވެ
ޑީއާރުޕީގެ ކޯޑިނޭޓަރ އިބްރާހީމް ޝާފިއު ވިދާޅުވީ އެހެން އެ ބުނަނީ ބުރާސްފަތި ދުވަހުގެ ޖަލްސާ ކޯރަމް ގެއްލުމުން ކަމަށާއި އެޖަލްސާއަށް ބަލާއިރު ދެކަމެއް ފާހަގަކޮށްލަން ޖެހޭ ކަމަށެވެ

Yamin to back his brother in election

Yamin has given an exclusive interview to Minivan News that he will be backing his brother Maumoon to be President for a seventh term. He feels Gayoom is the man for the Maldives in next year's presidential elections. He has said public figures need to know pulse of the people and public are looking for someone they can trust, with a good track record, and ability for the job. And he believes Gayoom tops the current list of candidates.
Yamin says that although Gayoom has been in power for thirty years and there is resentment and discontent among many Maldivian towards his brother there is no alternative candidate who can compare.
Yamin has told that he is not in the DRP now and he has formally resigned when he announced PA will become a political party. Yamin praised his brother President Gayoom saying Gayoom was much more democratic than people realize.

Meanwhile Dr: Hassan Saeed who has been among Yamin's strongest rivals has announced he will be running for Presidency to contest Gayoom in 2008. But whoever contents in the Election; with Yamin's backing no one can beat President Gayoom. Yamin's new stand also hints to the possibility of a strong PA and DRP alliance in the offing.

Yamin has given an exclusive interview to Minivan News that he will be backing his brother Maumoon to be President for a seventh term. He feels Gayoom is the man for the Maldives in next year's presidential elections. He has said public figures need to know pulse of the people and public are looking for someone they can trust, with a good track record, and ability for the job. And he believes Gayoom tops the current list of candidates.
Yamin says that although Gayoom has been in power for thirty years and there is resentment and discontent among many Maldivian towards his brother there is no alternative candidate who can compare.

The purpose of the visit to UK is find out which role would best suit Open Society in the reform process that is going on in Maldives and to hold discussions with foreign agencies on the subject said Dr. Hassan Saeed. He made the statement to Velidhoo News immediately after returning to Male’ from his UK visit.
Open Society is an NGO led by ex Foreign Minister Dr.Ahmed Shaheed, ex Justice Minister Mohamed Jameed and ex Attorney General Dr. Hassan Saeed. The ministers resigned from government last August stating that government was obstructing their reform work.
Speaking to Velidhoo News Dr. Hassan Saeed said that their visit to UK was to discuss the role that Open Society can play in the reform process of Maldives with foreign agencies. In this regard discussions were held with Senior Officials of the European Parliament designated to this region and with Senior Officials of the Foreign Ministry of UK. He further noted that his team also met and held discussions with Members of the British Parliament.
“The main aim of the visit is discuss the role Open Society can play in the reform process of Maldives, and in this regard we met and held discussions with Senior Officials of the European Parliament designated to this region, we met with Senior Officials of the Foreign Office of UK, Senior Members of the Commonwealth and members of the British Parliament” said Dr. Hassan Saeed who resigned from the last August citing government obstruction to his reform work.
When asked to comment on his recent interview to The Independent, a tabloid published in UK, which stated that he would stand in the coming presidential elections Dr. Hassan Saeed, cut short the conversation saying he would comment on it later.

MDP Executive Council member Husnu Al Suood has stated that it is high time MDP chose a presidential candidate for the coming elections scheduled for next year. He also noted that failure to do so may cause divisions within the party.
Speaking to Velidhoo News last night Suood said that choosing process of a presidential candidate in any party causes divisions and it will be the time when the party would be most weak.
“Thinking on these lines, I’ve said that if we delay the process especially if the candidate is chosen too close to election date, then the party might face huge complications at the last minute” said Suood.
Suood further said that if MDP does not choose its presidential candidate soon, then the party would be divided with each leading member forming his own group. He noted that he can already see signs of such divisions.
“The need to choose a presidential candidate now is that it will allow the party, time to unite before going to elections, if we do it now then we can achieve the target” said Suood.
Velidhoo News has learnt that MDP members are criticizing the party for its inability to decide on a leader.
When asked why the party is prolonging the issue he replied that MDP was evolved on a parliamentary system of government and that the rules of procedure governing the party was based on the principles of a parliamentary system and to make a decision before the referendum of the system of government may prove futile.
“However, now that we know which system will be in force, it would be best for MDP to choose a presidential candidate” said Suood.

MDP Secretary General Hamid Abdul Gafoor has revealed that all relevant parties of MDP were aware that the party Chairperson held discussions at the President’s Office. Hamid made the statement to Velidhoo News, when asked about the growing discontent within party members on Chairperson Anni’s recent discussions in President’s office.
Hamid rejected the allegations the MDP Chairperson, Anni, held discussions with the President Office Minister Aneesa Ahmed without the party’s knowledge and said “it was me who took him to the meeting”. “He should have held the meeting long before, Anni is too far behind” Hamid expressed his opinion.
Expressing his displeasure on the discussions, member of the Executive Council of MDP, Shuaib Ali, Furahani, said that MDP is not a one man party and that Anni could have gone about it in a different manner. The decision not to meet President Gayoom was taken inline with Anni’s thinking said a frustrated Shuaib. He further said that autocratic decisions is not inline with democratic principles.
“Anni’s actions within the MDP are like President Maumoon’s actions in governing the country, he takes decisions without consulting anybody and ignores party procedure” said Shuaib. He also called on Chairperson Anni to amend his ways.
MDP Executive Council member Ibrahim Didi says he does not believe a situation may arise that calls for MDP leader to hold emergency meeting with President Gayoom or any other senior official. He added that Anni’s actions prove that Anni is not such a democratically inclined person.
Anni justified his meeting with Aneesa saying that discussions were held not only on expediting the constitutional reform but also on the release of more than 700 MDP members arrested by police on different occasions.
MDP President Dr.Mohamed Munnawar speaking to Velidhoo News on 22 of this month said that it is difficult to believe that Anni would hold talks with an appointee of the President. He said that he was not informed of any such meeting.
“Chairperson of the party, on behalf of the party, cannot hold discussions without first meeting the national governing council of the party” said Dr.Munnawar.
When contacted by Velidhoo News on the issue, Anni, did not deny having met Aneesa but he refused to offer any comment. Anni further expressed his displeasure on the news item printed in Velidhoo News of 22 October.
Speaking at the 45 Executive Council meeting Chairperson Anni said that his discussions with President Office Minister Aneesa Ahmed were not done in secret but it was carried in accordance with the rules and procedures governing the party.
Maldives receives APR Outstanding Scout Award

The much coveted APR Outstanding Scout Award was achieved by Ahmed Hassan who completed grade 10 from Majeedhiya School last year. This is the second time the award was achieved by a Maldivian scout. The other 2 scouts who received the award were from Hong Kong and South Korea. Runner up position was achieved by a scout from Philippines.
The names of winners were announced after the Asia Pacific Regional Scout conference held from 18 to 23 of this month in Tokyo.
The awards were given away Chairmen of the Asia Pacific Regional Scout Committee. The awarding ceremony was attended by Senior Officials of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, Senior Officials of Asia Pacific Scout Headquarters and senior Officials of Scout Associations of Asian countries.
Maldivian Scout Association has expressed its delight in receiving the award second time and said that it was an honor for all Maldivian scouts.
