First international direct flight to Gan landed yesterday

The long cherished dream Adduans came true yesterday first direct flight to Gan International Airport landed yesterday at 13.23 hours local time. The flight originated from Milan and carried approximately 80 tourists onboard. The flight which landed at Gan International yesterday was operated by Panorama Airlines.

Many Adduans were at the airport to welcome the tourists and the crew of the aircraft when the plan landed. There was a festive mood in the air as the Adduans were overjoyed to see their long cherished dream come true.

With the landing of the aircraft in Gan International, the southern Maldives has been opened to tourism. Tourism Minister Mohmoud Shaugy, Transport Minister Mohamed Saeed and officials of Maldives Tourism Promotion Board (MTPB) as well as officials of Maldives Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) were present to greet the tourists. The guests were welcomed with welcome drinks and bouquet of roses. Mementoes of the occasion were given away. Further the first tourist to disembark from the aircraft was identified and was awarded on week free stay in Maldives by MTPB. The fortunate ones were a couple from Italy.

Due to warm welcome afforded by the Adduans the tourists were overjoyed, evident from the expressions on their faces. Approximately 80 tourists arrived on board the Panorama Airlines flight to Herethere Resort which is the first resort developed by MTDC.

Many believe that Herethere Resort exhibits Maldivian craftsmanship and masonry work at its best.

Many Adduans hope the continued operation of Herethere Resort in Addu Atoll would contribute to the economic development of Addu Atoll and continue to be a source of employment to Adduans.
