Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid and UN Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights, Kyong- wa Kanj has held discussions about works done in Maldives on Human Rights and also on works being done worldwide to protect human Rights.
In the discussions held the previous day via telephone, the highest priority was given to the work Maldives is doing to bring bad affects to Human rights due to climate change to the global attention. UN Deputy High Commissioner said that global attention was given to the small islands states meeting held in Maldives last November in the name of ‘Human Dimensions of Climate Change’. She further said that a solution can be brought to climate change only if we think deeper in to the effects to Human rights due to this.
Discussions were also carried out about the Maldives reform agenda, work being done in Maldives to protect Human rights, the visit of UN sub committee on the prevention of torture and also about the Human Rights reports prepared jointly by the UN Human Rights office and the Maldives.
