Foreign workers rose by 30 % in 2007

Ministry of Higher Education, Employment and Social Security has revealed that in year 2007 number of foreign workers in the country rose by 30% when compared to year2006.

In a written response given to Miadhu Daily, Ministry of Higher Education Employment and Social Security revealed that last year the number of foreign workers in the country rose by 30 % and by the end of last year 70075 foreigners were employed in the country.
Ministry revealed that most of the foreign workers are employed in the construction industry and that Bangladeshis form the majority group.

Ministry’s statistics reveal that by the end of the year 2006 a total of 53,901 foreigners were engaged in various jobs in the country and that since 2002 there has been an increase of 3000 to 4000 every year. However statistics reveal that in 2006 that number jumped by 9056 when compared to 2005. The number of foreigners working in the country in 2005 was 44,845. In this regard in 2006 the number rose by 20.19 %.

Department of Immigration has revealed that by the end of October 2007 a total 315 foreigners were found missing and are believed to be working illegally in the country.
