Government salaries raised

Following President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s decision to raise Government salaries from 1 January 2008, the President’s Office has been communicating further details of the salary increase to all Government offices.

All Government salaries were raised by between 20 percent and 60 percent, with lower-end salaries receiving the biggest proportional rise and vice versa. Under the latest rise in pay, the lowest pay for a fulltime Government employee is Rf. 2,600.

The pay for ranks between Clerk and Administrative Officer is between 44 percent and 57 percent. Employees ranked between Senior Administrative Officer and Deputy Director received a pay increase of between 35 percent and 42 percent. All ranks between Director and Executive Director received a pay rise of between 20 percent and 35 percent. Professional staff receiving higher salaries than those ranked as Executive Directors also received a 20 percent pay rise.
