Indian Foreign Secretary meets Shahid

Indian Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon who is currently in Maldives has paid a courtesy call to Maldives Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid. The call took place at the Foreign Ministry yesterday.

During the talks at the meeting between the 2 leaders, discussions were held on ways to improve the close brotherly ties between the 2 nations.

Minister Shahid at the meeting noted the many contributions India has made to the development of Maldives and thanked Indian government for the close cooperation it has afforded to Maldives at all times. In this regard Minister Shahid made special note of the assistance rendered in the field of security. Minister Shahid said that Maldives and India had similar foreign policies.

Speaking at the meeting Indian Foreign Secretary Menon noted the developments Maldives has achieved during the past years and said that it very apparent that the aid and assistance received towards the economic and social development of Maldives was being used very wisely by the government. He said the he was proud of the success Maldives has achieved in its effort to introduce a modern democracy to the country.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Foreign Minister Dhunya Maumoon, Maldivian Ambassador designated to India Anbaree Abdul Sattar, Indian High Commissioner to Maldives, A. K. Pandey, Maldives Ambassador at Large, Abdul Azeez Yoosuf, Executive Director of Department of External Resources Dr Hussain Niyaz and Fathimath Inayaa Director at Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
