Dhekunu Arumaz completes tour

Expedition of Dhekunu Arumaz has returned to Male’ after completing its tour of South Maldives. The expedition returned to Male’ yesterday at around 1700 hours after visiting 11 islands. The expedition was made with the objective of gaining support for a transitional government in order to hold the presidential elections under the new constitution.

According to Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) the expedition to South of Maldives was a huge success. MDP revealed that the expedition which commenced with 115 members from the different parties forming the National Unity Alliance had established strong links with the people of the southern islands.

MDP also reveals that meeting held in Gdh Thinadhoo was attended by a large crowd amounting to 1000 people. MDP reveal the meeting was addressed by all the top leaders of the Alliance. The leaders who addressed the Thinadhoo meeting were President of Adhaalath Party Sheikh Hussain Rasheed Hassan, founder member of New Maldives Movement Dr. Ahmed Shaheed, President of Islamic Democratic Party (IDP) Umar Naseer, President of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Dr. Munnawar, Vice President of MDP Ibrahim Hussain Zaki, Founder of MDP Mohamed Latheef and Parliamentary Group of MDP.

MDP also said that meeting in Fuvahmulak also received tremendous support. MDP revealed that Zikura School hall, where the meeting was held, was full and the people who went to hear the speeches had to wait in the courtyard of the school as well as on the adjoining street. They also revealed that approximately 2000 Fuvahmulak people attended the meeting.

Muli of Meemu Atoll gave a warm welcome to the Dhekunu Arumaz expedition says MDP. MDP also revealed that Muli beach was decorated with national flags and around 100 residents had come out to greet the expedition members. Further delegations from other nearby islands also were present to greet the expedition said MDP.

MDP revealed that depending on the population of the island visited, they had either held a meeting or a seminar and teams of the expedition visited houses in order to provide information on a transitional arrangement.
