Anni says seeking re election unconstitutional

Chairperson of Maldivian Democratic Party Mohamed Nasheed (Anni ) has said that the amendments that are being endorsed by the Peoples Special Majlis to the constitution under revision , does not permit President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom to stand election for a seventh consecutive term in office. He further said there is no circumstances which would allow such an opportunity to the President under the constitution under going reform and if he went ahead to stand re election that would be unconstitutional.

Speaking to Miadhu, Anni indicated that the only way President Gayoom would be now able to stand re election would be by corrupting the constitution.

“There is absolutely no way the President can stand for re election with the amendments has taken place, there is no excuse he give, if he is going stand election then it would be unconstitutional, the only way he can stand election is by corrupting the constitution” said Anni , Chairperson of MDP.
