Govt. salaries to be increased between 20 to 40 %

Ministry of Finance and Treasury Qasim Ibrahim has revealed that the promised increase of salaries of government employees will be between 20 to 40 percent. Qasim made the statement at news conference given to TV Maldives and some daily news papers.

Speaking at the news conference given on last Wednesday, Qasim said as per the documents received to his office, the salaries of government staff are being increased in the range of 20 to 60 percent.

According to Qasim an increase of 50 to 60 percent will given to employees who earn minimum pay. 30 to 40 percent increase will be given to middle range employees and 20 to 25 percent will be given to top level officials.

The 11.9 billion rufiyaa balanced budget allocates 800 million Rufiyaa to cater for the increase in salaries of government budgets. President Office last month announced that effective 2008 government would increase the salaries of government employees and would provide free text books, stationeries and A level and O level entrance fees.
