Abdulla Jabir Vice President of People’s Association as well as MP for Ga. Alif Atoll has said that the Maldivian National Congress, currently undergoing registration process is not formed by People’s Association (PA). Maldivian National Congress (MNC) is headed by Monaza Naeem, MP for Laamu Atoll as well as a key member of the People’s Association (PA). Abdulla Jabir made the statement to Miadhu when asked about the speculation floating around town, that the Maldivian National Congress headed by Monaza Naeem is formed by PA, especially since the PA’s Leader as well as MP for Noonu Atoll had previously announced that PA would soon emerge as a full fledged political party.

“That party is not formed by PA but Naeem is council member of PA; PA’s regulations does not forbid fellow members from engaging in political party activities, Naeem is forming a his own party because he wants to do so but that would not prevent him from being member of PA, it is not an issue” said Jabir.

When asked whether PA would emerge as a political party, Jabir replied that PA would not emerge as a political party however council members does have ideas on forming a political party and no decision is reached among council members on when to form the party.

“There is no way PA will change in to a political party, PA is an Association, PA members are talking about forming a political party but no decision has been reached on how and when to do it, PA is an association which has lot of MPs from the People’s Majlis as well as from the Special Majlis as members, PA members will always think in many angles, public will be informed if PA decides to form a party, we are currently working in the best interests of the people in both the Majlis” said Jabir.

PA is an association working for the economic development of the country.

Jabir has recently formed a company named Addu Holdings with the objective of increasing job opportunities for local adduans.
