Unidentified fever in Funadhoo

Department of Public Health (DPH) has revealed that an unidentified fever is spreading in Funadhoo of Shaviani Atoll.

DPH informs that a special team from the department is currently conducting tests in that island. In this regard blood samples are being taken from affected people for testing. Atolls do not have the necessary facilities to carryout the checks reports DPH. DPH further revealed that although it might be possible to carry out certain segments of the check in IGMH, mostly blood samples will have to be sent abroad for testing. Results will indicate type of fever that is spreading in Funadhoo revealed DPH.
Manager of Shaviani Atoll Hospital Hassan Ismail said that talking to Miadhu said that it has been since they first noticed the unidentified fever and that it approximately 3 days to control the fever. He said the fever could be chikungunya or Dengue or any other type of fever. Hassan a case of Typhoid was detected last week.
Manager Hassan Ismail said that fever has not been identified as yet and that the patients are mostly given panadol as medication.

Manager Hassan Ismail said that a team from DPH is already active in the island to check on the patients and determine the type of fever. He confirmed that the team is taking blood samples for testing purposes.

The situation in Funadhoo is not serious, but on the 4 of this month 14 cases were reported to the hospital said Hassan Ismail. According to Manager Hassan the fever mostly affects children under 5 years of age.

According to Shaviani Atoll Hospital, in addition to Funadhoo, Narudhoo of the same atoll is also affected by an unidentified fever. DPH team is expected to visit Naudhoo some time today.

The symptoms of this fever include high fever, body ache, headache, dizziness and joint pain once the fever has subsided.
