Govt. lacks capacity to best utilize budget – MP Jabir

Cortesy: Miadhu

When the people’s Majlis has passed the budget, the government does not have the capability to use it in the right way, Abdullah Jabir MP for Gaafu Alif Atoll as well as the Vice President of People’s Association (PA) has said.

Since members of PA were strongly opposing to the budget when it was being debated in Majlis and voted against passing the budget, Miadhu Daily posed a question to Jabir asking why any senior member of PA didn’t vote for the budget. Jabir said that PA always thinks about the interest of the people and to find a right path for the economy. He said that they will not decide without thinking as the amount in budget was out of hands.

“PA always works for the interest of people, to find right path for economy. We did not vote for the budget as we don’t see the budget beneficial for the people” Jabir said. He further said that some projects mentioned in the budget by the Finance Minister are not possible to become real and he enforced to go on after correcting such things. “… For example, the problem of Ihavandhippolhu harbor, developing Ihavandhippolu and Gulhee lagoon. How is this possible? A work of resort also cannot be finished within one year” Jabir said.

Jabir said that he does not see any way that building a port in Ihavandhippolhu could become a reality and there is nothing mentioned in the budget to do if that project fails. He said that he believes that this budget was passed with government influence.

“The government doesn’t have the capability to use the budget in the right way when the people’s Majlis had approved it. Didn’t the Finance Minister say that the government doesn’t have the capacity?” Jabir said.
