Price of yellow fin tuna and dried fish s now falling in the world markets, “Big Fish” a private company involved in Fisheries has said.
Managing Director of Big Fish, Yoosuf Rafeeu (Yoousay) said that the main reason for falling prices of yellow fin tuna is that, they export fish to the countries of European Union (EU) and these days are the off season.
Giving further details, Yoosay said that these are the days that the season changes in Europe and with this, the food they eat also changes.
Big Fish said that they have 35 vessels involved in Fisheries of yellow fin tuna and those vessels have been also told to fish within a limit.
“We don’t have much capacity to store after catching so much fish. So it is better to fish less rather than wasting. And there is not much use in keeping them stored as it would reduce the freshness” Yoosay said.
Yoosay said that Big fish also exports dried tuna and the demand for dried tuna is also less these days. He says that he thinks that the reason for this is unrest in Srilanka, which is the only country Maldives exports dried tuna.
