Police Basic Course Registered under the NQF

Maldives Police Service has said that Police Basic Course had been registered under the National Qualification Framework. Police said that it was registered as a result of the Maldives Accreditation Board deciding that it fit the NQF last December.

According to Maldives Police Service, MAB accepts the Police Basic Training Course on the level of Certificate II in Policing and the Certificate II level will be awarded from the 13th batch of the Police Basic Training Course onwards. However, Police said that the certificates will be awarded to the officers who pass the basic training. Hence, out of the 162 recruits in the 13th batch, the 148 who passed will be awarded the certificates, Police said.

Police say that the purpose of the PBT Course to be included in the NQM is to pave the way for the officers of the Maldives Police Service for further studies and rank advancement. Even though this course is now being held on the level of Certificate II, the Police Academy is planning to conduct this course on Diploma level in the near future and also, work is being done to ensure that other courses conducted by the Police academy is registered in the NQF, Police said.

Police Academy was formed on the 1st of September 2004 when the Maldives Police Service was declared independent from the MNDF, former NSS as a different organization. Previously known as the Law Enforcement Training Centre, it changed its title on March of last year. And it was registered under the Ministry of Higher Education on November of last year.
