Names of Members not attending to be made public

Speaker of the People’s Special Majlis has revealed that names of candidates not attending Majlis session will be made public via the media effective next Sunday.

Speaking at the Special Majlis session held yesterday, Speaker Qasim said the names of Members not attending the Majlis sessions are being made public as the assembly barely maintains the quorum. In this regard the last session of the Majlis barely maintained the quorum and was commenced 15 or 20 minutes later. Speaker Qasim has repeatedly appealed to Members to attend Majlis sessions instead of spending valuable time in the tea room of the Majlis House or under the umbrella located in the courtyard. Many instance has been noted where the Secretary General of the Majlis or other staff of the Majlis Secretariat had often gone and talked to the members in an effort to persuade them to attend the sessions. However on many occasion Members have given a deaf year to such appeals. It is also noted that opposition Members as well as DRP Members has on many occasions’ boycotted Majlis sessions by using such tactics.

Speaker Qasim said that he firmly believes that such actions contravenes the oath of the members have taken. He further said names of those Members who are on leave as well as names of Members who do not attend the sessions will be made public by the media.

Members have said Speaker Qasim deserved to be thanked for his effort to hold the Majlis sessions even by sending people to ask Members to attend the Majlis sessions. Members say that there has never been such a Speaker in the constitutional history of the country that has shown so much dedication and commitment to his work.
