When the deadline for completing the amendment of the constitution passed, Members of the Special Majlis were still busy passing articles and Bills that to be included in the new constitution.
Many of the articles of the Bill on Rights and Freedom, Bill on Judiciary and Bill on Property, Liability and Legal actions of the State that were previously rejected was sent back to the Drafting Committee was passed at the Majlis session held last night after being redrafted by the Drafting Committee. At last night’s sitting Majlis passed to include article on the right to peaceful assembly which erroneously omitted, to the Bill of Rights and Freedom. Members expressed the view that right of freedom of assembly is important right and should not be excluded.
Most of the amendments proposed last were to the Bill on Judiciary. As 12 out the 16 articles in this Bill was previously rejected by the Majlis when put to vote, many discussed to sent these articles back to drafting Committee for redrafting. Members also submitted many amendments to those articles of the Bill on Rights and Freedom, Bill on Judiciary and Bill on Property, Liability and Legal actions of the State that were submitted to the Majlis after redrafting.
Articles of the Bill on Rights and Freedom that were sent to the Majlis after redrafting by the Drafting Committee include the right to adequate clothing and housing, the right to nutritious food and clean water, the right of a high standard of health care, both physical and mental and the right to a clean and healthy environment.
In addition, the right of freedom of thought, conscience and expression; freedom of the press and other means of communications, dissemination and publish information and ideas and the right not to disclose the source of any information that is espoused, disseminated or published.
Even though today is Friday, Majlis sessions will be this afternoon and tonight in an effort to complete the constitutional reform as soon as possible.
