Dr. Shaheed reveals his actions on late Solah’s case

Former Foreign Minister Dr. Shaheed has revealed his actions concerning the death of Hussain Solah of Naazukige / S. Hithadhoo whist he was in office. He revealed his involvement in the case from the time of Solah’s death till his burial after the autopsy, at a meeting of the opposition front held in Addu Atoll.

Speaking at the meeting Dr. Shaheed said he told all he knew of the case to a Majlis Committee without any reservations and that chair of the committee was MP for Noonu Atoll Abdulla Yamin.

“I have told every thing I knew about the case to the Majlis Committee without any reservation, I have not held anything back, the chair of the committee was Abdulla Yamin, MP for Noonu Atoll” said Dr. Shaheed.

He further said his thinking and actions were based on 2 aspects, one was not hide any thing and other was to facilitate what Hussain Solah’s family wanted.

“My actions and thoughts were bases on two things, one was not to hide anything, I have never tried to hide anything on the Solah’s death or hide any government actions after his death, I have not tried to hide any thing on the case at any stage, the second aim was to facilitate the requests of the family” said Dr. Shaheed.

Hussain Solah’s death raised many questions. Particularly, when he was seen dead in the harbor of Male’ soon after he was brought to Male’ on drug charges by the Police.

Dr. Shaheed also revealed that although the High Commission in Sri Lanka is under the Foreign Ministry, the High Commission also does many other things as instructed by other government agencies. In this regard he noted that High Commission also is engaged in doing activities instructed by the President’s Office and the President’s Palace. Dr. Saheed further revealed that he did raise questions concerning the mobile phone of late Solah as he believed that it would throw light on to the circumstances which led to Solah’s death at a meeting held at President’s Office. Dr. Saheed said no body knew what happened to records of the telephone calls made Late Solah.

Dr. Ahmed Saheed further revealed that Foreign Ministry played no role in the autopsy that was performed on Solah’s body. According to Dr. Shaheed he only knew of the decision to perform the autopsy while he was at the airport on his way to go on a short holiday.

“Foreign Ministry plays no role in an autopsy performed by the government, I only knew about the autopsy when I was at the airport ready to go on a holiday” said Dr. Shaheed.
