Island Chief of Filladhoo Hassan Ali has said that the Atoll Chief’s decision to take action against Filladhoo people on the issue of the closure of the Filladhoo Island Office was like slaughtering the people.
According to Island Chief Hassan Ali, Atoll Chief has purposely disregarded the authority of the Island Office. In this regard Island Chief noted the unacceptable actions of the Atoll Chief such as distributing financial aid for tsunami victims through a private individual without any involvement and knowledge of the Island Office. He noted such actions were in violation of pertinent regulations and norms.
“The people do not want distribution to like that of dates, they want tsunami funding to be distributed in to 3 categories, they are aid for most affected houses, moderately affected houses and to houses which received little or no damage, a lot of surveys were done here and when it finally came to distributing the funds, funding were given in different amounts to different people” said Island Chief of Filladhoo.
According to Chief Ali, the closure of the island office was a result of excessive involvement in the issue by the Atoll Chief. He further said the people do not want the funds for tsunami relief to be distributed in the same way as dates are distributed; and that the people want the moneys to be distributed in a fair and in a justifiable manner. Additional Island Chief of Filladhoo Ahmed Fuadh said most of the news briefings given by the Atoll Chief were totally false.
