Fishermen’s Day celebrations begin

Colorful celebrations to mark last year’s Fishermen’s Day has commenced in Dhaalu Atoll Kuda Huvadhoo yesterday.

Fisheries Ministry said that Kuda Huvadhoo was selected to celebrate this year’s fishermen’s day after the proposals from 11 other islands were referred to Fisheries advisory board. Fisheries Ministry said that the island to celebrate fishermen’s day is selected among the islands who propose for it.

Kuda Huvadhoo island office said that lots of events are taking place in the island and these celebrations will continue till 4th of this month.

Programs organized for this year’s fisherman’s day include tuna and reef fish catching competitions and other sea sports. Miadhu Daily has learnt that prizes will also be awarded to the winners of these competitions. Maldives under 19 national team is scheduled to play a friendly football match with a team selected from Kuda Huvadhoo and music shows are also to be held.

Miadhu Daily has known that a lot of people from nearby islands are visting Kuda Huvadhoo.

“Kuda Huvadhoo is well prepared for this day. The island is cleaned. Social areas of the island are cleaned. Banners and flags are kept all over the island. We got one and half months to prepare for the day. We are not very satisfied with the preparations” island chief Ismail Saeed said.

Island office said that all islanders were very cooperative in preparing for the day.
