Hirimaradhoo islanders disconnect electricity

The islanders of Hirimaradhoo have disconnected electricity from the school due to lack of teachers.

Regarding the matter, Hirimaradhoo office said that the islanders committed such an act as many problems are faced every year due to lack of teachers in the school. Island office said that none of the parents would send their children to school unless they get all teachers.

“As this year begins, we have 5 foreign teachers and 7 temporary teachers. There is doubt that job would be settled for these 7 teachers. Lack of teachers is not the only problem faced in this school. There is a 9 feet by 9 feet staff room for 18 staff. We face other problems such as chairs, tables and other equipments used for administrative purposes” Island Chief Mohamed Fazeel said.

Island chief said that last year also, they had to combine two grades and teach due to lack of teachers.

When contacted a parent on the matter, she said that frustrations will be there when such things keeps on repeating and said that the government just providing book list is not enough.

“The administrative works inside the school does not seem it like that this is a government institution” said the parent.

Island office said that 26 students will study in grade 10 which was formed this year. He also said that there is no library in the school and many resources are not provided to the students.
