After 3 days since the islanders took control of the island administration in Noonu Miladhoo, the government and the atoll chief is not paying any attention to their voices, the islanders of Noonu Miladhoo has said. The islanders say that their anger is growing day by day and senior government officials could not dare to come and meet them as their words and actions don’t meet.
“Senior government officials cannot dare to come and meet us. We are saying that we would do no harm. He would not harm any body or even any building. But the atoll chief also doesn’t care about this. He is going to other islands, watching football matches etc” an islander of Miladhoo said on phone.
Another islander of Miladhoo said that, although they do no harm in this activity, the government would later see what they have done that they are not listening to their voices and cries.
“We would not do any harm in this. But the government and the atoll chief would see this later. They would also come to us one day. Today, they are showing a deaf ear towards our cries” said the islander.
The islanders of Noonu Miladhoo surrounded and locked the island office and court last Sunday morning at 7:30. The reason behind this was, according to the islanders are that they have not been getting some essential services such as fresh water, sewage system, electricity problems and harbor.
An informant from Miladhoo said that he called the interim Atoll Chief Mohamed Ali at 4pm last Sunday and requested hi on behalf of all islanders to visit the island and to see the people’s participation in this.
“Mohamed Ali said that he was in Maafaru, watching a football match. He said that he is working as according to the instructions by the Atolls ministry and he could not come to the island even though the people request. Then I asked whether he is there in Maafaru, watching a foot ball match after ignoring the problems at our island because the Atolls Ministry instructed so? He said that he has already said that he was working under the instructions from Atolls Ministry. I told him that I would give this information to media and he said that he had no problem with it”
