More foreigners employed at 2 resorts

Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation has revealed that a survey conducted by the ministry at Kihaadhuhfaru Resort (Baa Atoll Kihaadhuhfaru ) and Reethi Beach Resort (Baa Atoll Foni Magoodhoo) indicates that more foreigners are employed at these resorts than Maldivians.

Ministry reveals that Kihaadhuhfaru employs 68 Maldivians and 110 foreigners and Reethi Beach Resort employs 78 Maldivians and 108 foreigners. In this regard Ministry revealed that both resorts have violated the employment code for foreigners set by Ministry of Employment. The Employment Ministry employs a 50: 50 ratios says Tourism Ministry.

Tourism Ministry informs that ministry was bound by lease agreement signed with Baa Kihaadhuhfaru on 24 August 1997 and with Baa Kihaadhuhfaru on 20 August 1997 and therefore unable to take any steps against the resorts. Hence the matter has been forwarded to Ministry of Higher Education, Employment and Social Security for corrective action says Tourism Ministry.
