President visits Maaen’boodhoo

President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has visited South Nilandhe Atoll Maaen’boodhoo and met with the island’s people.

On his arrival, he was given a very warm welcome by senior island officials and a large number of members of the general public. A special welcome song was also performed to celebrate the presidential visit.

Addressing the people of Maaen’boodhoo, the President praised them for their firm commitment to development. He also noted that Maaen’boodhoo had a strong social spirit and an industrious youth. “The people offer their firm contribution and assistance towards every development project, program and endeavor on the island”, the President highlighted.

The President also spoke on the political reforms that had transformed Maldivian society in recent years. “My reform agenda has been a remarkable success”, he said. Referring to a banner on the island, the President thanked the people of Maaen’boodhoo for their strong endorsement of his reform agenda.

Speaking at the function, the Island Chief of Maaen’boodhoo,
Zakariyya Mufeed briefed the President on some of the most pressing needs and problems on the island. He also noted that the tsunami disaster of 2004 had inflicted extensive damage on the island.
