Sp. Majlis to resume work today

People’s Special Majlis will resume work today after vacation.

As Special Majlis resumes work after 33 days, the first item on agenda is presenting to the Majlis floor, the changes members proposed for the chapter on President. After that, debate will commence on the chapter and vote will be taken for the proposals.

Next item on agenda after the chapter on President is the debate on setting the principles of chapter on transition.

The recent meetings of Majlis were very much heated on the problem of transition chapter. The opposition members were saying that the chapter on transition must come before the chapter on President while pro-government members were saying that President’s chapter should come first. But the chair gave vacation to the members without starting the work on both those chapters.

Many opposition members criticized the speaker of Sp. Majlis Gasim Ibrahim for giving holiday to the members. Members said that Gasim promised wok would continue till the constitution is complete, as the Majlis failed to complete the constitution by the set deadline, 30 November.

Some members were saying that because Gasim is one of the Vice presidents of the ruling DRP, his Majlis work is influenced by Party philosophy and agenda.

In the sitting of Sp. Majlis held on the 10th of December, Gasim Ibrahim said that holidays were given to Members to perform pilgrimage and also for other reasons. Some members also questioned Gasim as holidays were not given for long time.
