In the ongoing series of gang fights in Male’ an 18 year old teenager has stabbed 9 times. The teenager was injured during a fight at Bodufungadu Street between 2 gangs armed with swords wooden clubs and iron rods at a round 22.45 yesterday night. The injured was taken initially to ADK hospital medical treatment.
Speaking to Velidhoo News, Ahmed Afaal Managing Director of ADK hospital said the 18 year old was treated in ICU from the time he was admitted to the hospital until he was released the next morning.
“He was stabbed 9 times by a sharp object, stabs were mainly on the back and the chest, 3 stabs are very deep, he was taken to IGMH to receive further medical treatment, his condition was serious when he was moved to IGMH” said Afaal.
Velidhoo News was unable any official of IGMH who could provide information on the injured 18 year old condition.
Briefing the media on the series of ongoing gang violence in Male’ Sub Inspector Abdulla Nawaz , Head of Serious Crime Unit said that 21 people have been arrested in the search for the gangs who cause violence and damage to public property. He also said that the figure includes 9 minors.
He further said that in the ongoing search for such gangs police are sometimes forced to use their vehicles at high speeds with sirens on; and that in such circumstances public are urged to give way for to the police and not to obstruct them in their pursuit of these gangs.
“In such areas where the violence is ongoing police will take into their custody all vehicles that are parked illegally” said Nawaz. He further reminded the public that it would be an offense to obstruct police in the performance of their duties and any person doing so will be persecuted.
At the briefing Nawaz urged the public to provide information to the police regarding any violence that they see.
According to police, only the 18 year old was injured in the series of mob fights between Saturday and Monday.
2 cars and 2 taxis were vandalized during a gang fight on Saturday night.
