Report: Uken
Ministry of Education has revealed that work is underway to recruit foreign teachers on time for the next academic year.
Speaking to Velidhoo News, Director General of Ministry of Education Imadh Solih said that the first phase of the process has been completed. He says more than 700 Indian teachers have submitted their applications and that it would be difficult to get Sri Lankan teachers this year.
“First phase of the process is completed, at the end of the first phase approximately 700 Indian teachers have applied, it would be difficult to get Sri Lankan teachers this year” said Imadh.
Imadh also noted that many foreign teachers enjoy better pay when they work in their native countries, and said that he hoped that the increase in the salaries of government staff proposed for next year would bridge the gap.
Imadh said “we are forced to bring foreign teachers due to low standard of the local teachers”.
In year 2006, 480 foreign teachers were employed by Education Ministry. However this figure was somewhat reduced this year.
