Abdulla Jabir Vice President of People’s Association, PA, have said that it is quite possible that PA may not change to political party. However he added that it is also possible that PA may change to a political party.

Jabir made the statement to Velidhoo News when asked the status of Association’s change to a party as indicated by PA’s Leader Abdulla Yameen, earlier.

In an exclusive given to
Velidhoo News , Jabir said that although the Association is considering changing to a political party he is not aware of whether any formal decisions were made on the matter. However PA’s Leader when contacted by Velidhoo News has said that work is underway to change PA to a political party and that it was many members wish to do so. However the Associations Deputy Leader indicated that he was not aware of PA’s agenda.

Asked whether if the Association would change to a party before the presidential elections of 2008, he said discussions were held on the matter and that whether the PA would change to party before the elections is any body’s guess.

PA was formed by ex Dhivehi Rahyithunge Party, DRP members. As such in many news briefings verbal attacks were aimed at each other. In this regard, Jabir in a news conference had said that even though many PA members played an important role in the establishing DRP, the members left DRP due to lack of internal democracy within the party.

According to Jabir,PA was established because of the aspirations of the founders of the association to serve the nation and people by raising their living standards. Faster economic development and distribution of the wealth of the country on sound policies are major objectives of PA said Jabir.

In an interview given to
Velidhoo News , PA’s leader Abdulla Yamin has said that PA‘s aim is not challenge any party and that PA is working to provide sincere services to the people and the nation. Yameen noted that in PA’s efforts to serve the people and the nation, they are willing to form liaisons with all political parties.

“PA is not formed to challenge DRP, PA and DRP will join in the interest of the people and in the regard to all other partys as well” said Yameen, PA’s Leader.

Many political analysts have said that PA’s change to a full fledged political party would make the political area more competitive and strong.
