MDP has asked the Registrar of Political Parties and Commissioner of Elections to increase the party membership by an additional 8262 members.MDP Secretary General Hamid Abdul Gafoor, said with the letter to the Registrar KD Ahmed Maniku the party’s membership would be increased to 23855. He added the approved list by the Registrar as of October 22, stands at 15592.
The main problem faced with validating the membership list is when the information contained in membership forms is disputed by the Registrar.
“For example when we submitted 23,000 names the Registrar of Political Parties only accepted 15,000; this is what happened to us, not that we are blaming the Registrar” said Hamid.
The list submitted yesterday are where the information such as full name, permanent address, date of birth, Identity card number and other pertinent details have been verified.
Secretary General Hamid says that even now the party is working on verifying the relevant details in order to submit additional names to the Registrar.
