A group of female police officers have told Velidhoo Newsthat permission to wear headscarf previously granted to some of the female police officers have been revoked.

Female officer who wish remain anonymous said that she was informed of the revocation last week.

“Female police officers can only wear headscarf after obtaining a special permit, the permission was revoked before we could wear the headscarf” said a female officer whose permit was revoked.

Another female officer said that it was a very sad thing and instead of revoking the permission granted to those officers, the responsible officers in charge should refrain from granting further permission to other female officers who wishes to wear the headscarf.

“Many fix a specific date to start wearing the headscarf; I have obtained the permission and have got everything ready, my uniform and my headscarf; when the authorities revoked the permit, it is a big loss for me” said the officer.

Velidhoo Newscontacted Hussain Shakir, Assistant Commissioner of to obtain further information on the issue. However he declined to shed any light and told Velidhoo News to contact media official of police.

When contacted media official told Velidhoo News that such issues were internal issues of the police and as such no information could be provided.
