Police on alert for gang violence

Maldives Police on Saturday nigh confiscated wooden clubs and iron bars from a gang. The gang armed with these clubs and iron rods were going at around with intent to cause damage to property and cause violence. According to police they received information that a gang was getting to ready for gang fights at around 23.00 hrs that night.

The gang which intended to cause violence had fled throwing their clubs and rods when police arrived at the scene. Police had dispersed the crowds that gathered at areas where they had information that gangs were getting ready to fight. The areas are Manchangolhi Circle, Kuda Henveiru area and an area from Maafannu. These areas then were patrolled by Capital Police and by Officers of the Special Operations Command.

Maldives police reports that no act of violence was carried out that night. However last night 4 cars were vandalized.

Police reports that the matter of vandalism is being investigated by Serious Crime Services of Maldives Police. Police reports that so far no arrests have been made. Velidhoo News observed even last night police was patrolling the streets of Male’ to prevent such acts of violence.
