Govt. starts another round of persecution - MDP

Maldivian Democratic Party, MDP says the government has started another round of persecution of its senior members. Government is persecution its senior members by raising those cases which has been pending for more than a year reveals a press release issued by the party yesterday.

According to the press release the actions of the government is aimed at disrupting the national stability, peace and harmony of our society. MDP’s latest criticism of the government is based on the forceful intervention of the dhoni Hihvaru traveling from Naifaru to Kashidhoo of Kaafu Atoll and the subsequent unlawful investigation 10 residents of Naifaru reveals the press release. The press release of MDP has raised concerns over the fact the government has raised the issue after more than a year of silence. The press release reveals that the government claims that these 10 people were informed that traveling to Male’ to join in a public rally in organized by MDP on the 10 November of 2006 would be an offence. The public rally organized by MDP on the November of 2006 was intended to force the government to expedite the constitutional reform process.

“At a time when all concerned is working wholeheartedly to complete the constitutional reform process, the action of the government to prosecute MDP members to fulfill their political agenda instead of bringing the country’s best interest forward is strongly condemned by the party” reveals the press release.

In addition the press release calls on the government to stop this latest round of persecution of its members immediately.
