The Cabinet last night selected this year’s conferees of the awards of honor and awards of recognition for outstanding service to the public.The selections were finalized by the Cabinet on the basis of the recommendations submitted by a select Cabinet Committee, which had examined the service records of the nominees based on the standards and eligibility criteria for the awards.
As in previous years, the awards will be conferred at the official function to mark Republic Day. The function will be held on 18 November 2007 at Dharubaaruge at 9pm. The special awards for achieving distinctions for the country abroad will also be given away at the event. The event will also feature distribution of special prizes for those who had produced literary works for children to the standards approved by the Government.
The awards of honor and awards of recognition for outstanding service to the public were introduced in 1979.
