Report: Soodh
People who acted as invigilators in the recent public referendum held on the system of government have started complaining that they were not paid as promised.
These invigilators say that a representative of the commissioner, in a meeting held in Addu to brief them on the election process promised that each invigilator would be paid Mrf.150.00 on that day, but on the day of the referendum an invigilator would be paid Mrf.500.00 and if he or she worked after midnight an additional Mrf.500.00 would be paid.
“I have yet to receive the money, Maradhoo Office got the money minus the amount to be paid for the initial day of briefing; the thing is they have not their word” complained a Maradhoo resident who have not been paid for his work.
Velidhoo News was unable to get any information from the Election Commissioner’s Office for the verification of the story.
The referendum held to determine the system of government was part of the constitutional reform process being carried out by the Special Majlis. Although the opposition party MDP claims of many irregularities in the election process, and the 11 member committee set up by the Special Majlis have confirmed many irregularities did exists, Speaker of the Special Majlis have accepted the results of the referendum as valid and final. The referendum results indicated by a clear majority that the people favored a presidential system of government.
