Addalath Part has established a special committee to evaluate and highlight Articles or sub Article or wordings in the new constitution that may cause conflict with the principles of Islam and to bring such articles or wordings to the attention of the Majlis as well as to counsel the Majlis on such issues so that necessary amendments can be made. The committee is set up as part of the Adhaalath Party’s initiatives to assisit in the efforts made by the government to conclude the constitutional reform by end of November 2007.
The committee was appointed at a special meeting held last Saturday night to agree on a yardstick that religious scholars can use in the public sermons and lectures can by them. The meeting also discussed ways on protecting the people especially the young from the influence of the extremist hard line thinking.
At the meeting discussions was also held on how to address those religious issues where opinion is divided among scholars. It was agreed that scholars when given sermons should points out areas where difference of opinion exists and where possible references should be given wordings of the Prophet or his companions.
At the meeting it was agreed to establish a special committee to study and evaluate the new constitution and highlight those areas of the new constitution where it contradicts or compromise religious principles and bring them to the attention of the Majlis. The committee appointed is also charged with providing the Majlis necessary information required to amend those areas of conflict.
The committee appointed comprise of Dr. Abdul Majeed Baari , Sheikh Adam Naseem , Sheikh Hussain Rasheed Ahmed , Sheikh Mohamed Didi, Mohamed Mujthaba , Mohamed Zaneen , Sheikh Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed , Sheikh Ahmed Moosa and Ibrahim. The committee is charged to evaluate point’s conflict within 3 days and provide the Majlis with necessary information for the rectification.
The participants of the meeting called to establish an independent committee to protect Islamic identity of the country and our Islamic way of life. The meeting was participated scholars and graduates from universities such as Riyad University, Al Azhar University, Pakistan International Islamic University, Malaysia International Islamic University and University of Madheena. Further the meeting was also participated by law graduates from universities in Australia, India and Malaysia.
