Breaking News: 4 vehicles vandalized early this morning by armed gang

4 vehicles parked in Henveiru were vandalized early this morning at around 0100 hrs. This mindless act of vandalism was carried out by gang of young motor cyclists who were armed with wooden clubs. The gang caused varying degrees of damage to one mini van in addition to 2 private cars and 2 taxis’s.

An eye witness who saw the act of vandalism said “I came out as there was a lot of noise, when I came out the group was in the act of smashing the windshield of cars that were parked, I saw the police coming after them but the police were able to apprehend only a few of them, the rest of the gang escaped leaving their wooden clubs behind”.

Another eye witness who wants to remain anonymous said that out of the vandalized 4 cars, 2 belong to Henveiru Rose in Bloom and the windshields of the 2 cars were smashed. He also said that the windshield of another belonging to Henveiru Rannaruge was also smashed and that a door of a mini van parked also were damaged.

Velidhoo news crew on learning of this vandalism went to the area and also had a quick look around Male’
Velidhoo News observed that large crowds had gathered near Manchangoli Circle, Near the BG Area in Maafannu, near the artificial beach and behind the Voice of Maldives.

Police was also seen to be very active, doing rounds in jeeps and buses.

The news crew of Velidhoo News observed police taking some wooden clubs in to their buses near the artificial beach, however new crew did not witness any arrests being made.

Speaking to Velidhoo News a police officer said that they have received information of planned gang fights but the reason and purpose is not clear. He added that as the matter is now under investigation further details cannot be provided.
