DRP Chief Spokesperson Ibrahim Shafiu has said that as per Article 16 of Rules of Procedure governing the party, Dr. Hassan Saeed is no longer a member of the DRP
Shafiu speaking to Velidhoo News explained that Clause B of the Article 16 says that a member of the party is deemed to have his membership revoked if a member is found lacking the qualities required of a member or if the member resigns from the party.
Shafiu told Velidhoo News that the statements made in Dr. Hassan resignation letter are entirely false. He said the decision to bar Dr. Hassan was not a unilateral decision by the party Leader but it was the decision of the Executive Council.
“When you look at Dr. Hassan Saeed’s resignation, party’s regulations say if a member wishes to resign from the party he can do so,it is not a must reply to resignation letters, as Dr.Hassan Saeed submitted his resignation under clause B of Article 16 he is automatically out of the party” said Chief Spokesperson Ibrahim Shafiu.
In his resignation letter sent to the Leader of DRP, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, Dr. Hassan Saeed wrote the decision to suspend him from the meetings of the Executive Council, was a breech of the party pertinent regulations.
Dr Hassan Saeed wrote”and by violating the Party regulations, you have shown your apparent disregard to the sentiments of the party members, I, therefore submit my resignation, effective today, from the party Deputy Leader and from the party as well”.
Dr. Hassan Saeed resigned from DRP on the 30 of October 2007.
