Report: Soodh
Adhaalath Party and Islamic Democratic Party, IDP, has strongly condemned the comments made by MDP Chairperson, Mohamed Nasheed, Ann, during the recent panel discussions hosted by Al Jazeera.
Anni, speaking on the current political situation in Maldives on “101 East” program of Al Jazeera had stated that religious extremism in Maldives is a by product of the introduction of Arabic education to the country.
IDP’s Chief Spokesperson commenting on “101East” aired last Friday said Anni’s comments are cowardly and aimed at harassing the Islamic religion. He further said that Anni’s comments are indicative of his lack of love for Islam.
“IDP considers Anni’s comments as cowardly, aimed at harassing the religion, the foundation of Islamic education is Arabic education, this is an attack on the country’s Islamic unity and our Islamic values and beliefs, such word coming from a leader of a political party is highly regrettable” said IDP Chief Spokesperson Yousuf Zuhury.
Zuhry questioned the credibility of Anni’s comments and said it cannot be justified as none of the arrested culprits received their education in Arabiyya or Mauhadh, the only two institutions providing education in Arabic in the country.
Sheikh Hussain Rasheed President of Adhaalath Party said that Anni’s word reflects his lack of knowledge on the prevalent government policies on education.
“Adhaalath Party strongly condemns Anni’s comments on 101 program of Al Jazeera” said Sheikh Hussain.
Velidhoo News was unable to Anni’s comment on the criticisms of Adhaalath and IDP.
Panel discussions of 101 East program of Al Jazeera were held between Chairperson Anni, Mohamed Nasheed of DRP and Umar Naseer of Islamic Democratic Party.
