Govt. staff to get better pays next year

The Cabinet yesterday recommended President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom to make necessary provisions in the consolidated estimates for the 2008 Government Budget, following the decision by President to raise the salaries of Government employees from 1 January 2008.

In yesterday’s meeting the cabinet also recommended the President Gayoom to make necessary provisions in the consolidated estimates for the 2008 Government Budget, following the decision by the President for the Government to provide syllabus text books, exercise books and necessary stationeries from the First to the Twelfth grades, as well as the admission fees for O’ Level and A’ Level students who request for such assistance, starting from the 2008 Academic Year. President Gayoom decided that the Government would pay the admission fees for IGCSE, Cambridge O’ level, Edexcel A’ level, Islam and Dhivehi of S.S.C and H.S.C. exams.

In yesterday’s meeting, President Gayoom briefed the Cabinet on the Singaporean President, S. R. Nathan’s State Visit to the Maldives. President briefed the members of the Cabinet on the issues that were discussed during his meeting with the Singaporean President. He noted that President Nathan’s visit had boosted the existing relations between the Maldives and Singapore.

At yesterday’s Meeting, members also deliberated on the Maldives joining the Bureau of International Exposition. They also held discussions on the Petition presented to the President by the Women Association on rooting out Narcotic drugs.
