Report: Soodh

Dr. Ahmed Shaheed, ex Foreign Minister has expressed his gratitude to the President of Maldivian Democratic Party, MDP, Dr. Munawar for inviting him and his colleagues, ex Attorney General Dr. Hassan Saeed and ex Justice Minister Mohamed Jameel, to join MDP.

When asked by Velidhoo News if the ex ministers have accepted the invitation of Dr. Munawar, Dr. Shaheed replied a decision is to be reached on the matter. Ex Foreign Minister says that his colleagues and he are keen reformists with a love for democracy.

Dr. Shaheed further said that he believes MDP is a party working for reform and that a lot changes have already been achieved due to the party’s work.

“I sincerely thank Dr. Munawar for his invitation, I believe more people are needed other than MDP to work for reform, MDP has already achieved a lot, however they have not achieved the results desired as such additional inputs are required, a union working for true democracy is now essential” said Dr. Shaheed.

He further told Velidhoo News that people of the Maldives must learn to love democratic principles and that Maldivian should learn how to live in a modern democracy.

“If the people really want democracy they can bring democracy to this country, we should learn to love democracy, we should be able to make our own choices, we should learn how to overcome the challenges faced in bringing about a modern democracy” said Dr. Shaheed.

I do not believe transferring from one party to another can solve our problems said Dr. Shaheed.
