Gayoom extends Ramazan greetings

President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has extended greetings and good wishes to the people on the occasion of the commencement of the holy month of Ramazan.

Speaking at the function held at the Islamic Centre on the commemoration of the commencement of the Holy month of Ramazan, the President noted that the holy month of Ramazan was a very important spiritual opportunity granted annually to the Islamic Ummah by the Almighty Allah.

President Gayoom said that fasting has proven its benefits throughout the history. The President said that Ramazan was a special season of spiritual upliftment for which all Muslims must be grateful to the Almighty Allah.

He said that the most important lesson of Ramazan was piety. President also that everyone should pay particular heed to piety and ensure that their conduct would contribute to enhancing personal devoutness. He said that fasting was an act of devotion which facilitated and encouraged piety, and that one should always bear in mind that the purpose of fasting was to increase spirituality and devoutness. He also said that the month of Ramazan was a time when the noble principles of Islam were put in to practice and their virtues were demonstrated.

The President has also extended Ramazan greetings to the Leaders of Islamic countries and to Heads of Islamic International Organizations. He also expressed his greetings to all members of the Islamic Ummah on the auspicious occasion of the beginning of the Holy month of Ramazan.
