The President has said that the concept of a knowledge-based society has been a key concept of Islam since its inception. The President made this statement while addressing the first meeting of this year’s programme held last night to revive and renew the spirit of Ramadan. The President said that even though most people believed that the concept of a knowledge-based society is a modern one, this concept has been one of the basic tenets of Islam from the first day.

The President cited excerpts from the Noble Quran and teachings of the Holy Prophet to support the thesis that development in life is based on knowledge. The President also spoke on the repeated references to learning, thinking, experiencing and enriching knowledge in the Quran and Sunnah.

The President further stated that knowledge was a source of strengthening belief in Allah and stressed the esteemed status accorded to people of knowledge in Islam. He said that the acquisition of knowledge was a must for all Muslims, according to the teachings of the Holy Prophet.

In his speech, the President described the modern day world as a world where the acquisition and dissemination of information played a vital role. He spoke on the problems and difficulties in determining the accuracy of information received by different media. In this regard, the President said that while there are some parties who disseminate accurate information, we should be aware of those who deliberately spread false information to the public.
