Chief Spokesperson of Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party, Ibrahim Shafiu has revealed that party has suspended former Atorney General Dr.Hassan Saeed and former Justice Minister Mohamed Jameel from engaging in part activities. The decision was reached at a meeting of the Party Council held yesterday evening. Dr.Hassan Saeed and Uz. Mohamed Jameel who resigned from the cabinet on 5th of August was under fire from party members for violating party policy, criticizing the Party Leader and the Reform Agenda put forward by the President.
Chief Spokesperson Shafiu also said the resignation of Dr. Saeed from from the post of Atorney General momentarily weakened the party. Answering a question from Velidhoo News on the suspension Dr.Hassan Saeed and Uz.Mohamed Jameel Chief Spokesperson Shafiu said Dr.Saeed’s resignation, his criticism of the government caused dismay and doubt in the minds of campaigners from Seenu Atoll during the recent public referendum on the system of government. He also stated their resignation from the cabinet was timed to weaken the party during the referendum.
Uz. Mohamed Jameel, who is a Council Member of DRP did not offer any response to the suspension while Dr.Saeed was not available for comment.
After the resignation from their cabinet posts, Dr.Saeed and Uz.Jameel had criticized the government and President’s reform agenda.
In response to Dr. Saeed’s criticism of the reform agenda President Gayoom has stated that that reform had not failed and that the work pertaining to the reform agenda is speedily gaining ground.
Political analysts believe that the suspension of Uz. Jameel and Dr. Saeed may not be the best decision, however, if they are working to create an anti government feeling then this decision may be justified.
