Eligible voters to be announced for Island Committee elections

Two committees established to monitor and administer the elections for island committees have reported that the list of eligible voters for the election will be revealed 12 days prior to the elections.

Ministry of Atolls Development has announced that the elections for Island Committees would be held on 27 October 2007.

Speaking at a press briefing, Abdul Ghafoor Ahmed Deputy Director General of the Public Complaints Bureau said that the most important work is to finalize the lists and with the help of island offices, it will be finalized soon.

Earlier, Island Development Committee elections scheduled for the 1st of June have been postponed. It was also decided to hold the elections within 30 days following the referendum to decide the type of government for the new constitution.

Ministry of Atolls Development has reported that two committees were established to look after the required administrative logistics and arrangements for the upcoming Island Committee elections.

Deputy Director Mohamed Jawad Yoosuf said that the first committee will be chaired by Abdul Ghafoor Ahmed Deputy Director General of the Public Complaints Bureau. Three members will be in this committee and will be looking after the planning and coordination of the elections.

The second committee will be chaired by the Director Corporate Affairs of Dhamaas Maldives Company Mohamed Shihab. This committee is responsible for finalizing all measures related to the election.
