17 December 2007
Report: Soodh

Heated text messages have been exchanged between Presidential Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef and former Foreign Minister Dr. Ahmed Shaheed. The text messages were exchanged over the recent comments made by Dr. Shaheed on the late Hussain Solah death at a meeting held by alliance of the opposition parties at Addu Atoll. The SMS were mainly on release of the report of Solah’s death to foreign agencies.

When Miadhu contacted Dr. Shaheed on receipt of the SMS he confirmed to Miadhu, that the Report on the death of Hussain Solah was released to foreign agencies at the instruction of President Gayoom.

“When President received information regarding the autopsy report of Hussain Salah, he called me and told me what is said in the report and instructed me to release the information to foreign agencies and I am ready to swear on the Holy Koran that I am telling the truth” said Dr. Shaheed speaking via telephone from Colombo.

Dr. Shaheed made the statement in response to Presidential Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef’s (Mundh) statements made in Hard Talk Show of Capital Radio. Mundhu’s comments were made in direct response to Dr. Shaheed’s address given at the meeting of opposition alliance held in Addu to brief the Adduans on the death of Solah’s death.

Mundhu on Capital Radio said the autopsy report of Hussain Solah was released to foreign agencies before it was given to the family of Solah by Dr. Shaheed without any instigation from any body.
“Before he accuse of telling he should first check whether President willing to swear by the holy Koran” said Dr. Shaheed last night.

Miadhu has obtained copies of messages that were sent to Mundhu by Dr. Shaheed last night. One of the messages read “Mundhu, you were not there when HEP called me and gave the instructions, but somebody else was there when HEP gave the instruction, instructions were us usual biased favoring Maldivian government”.

Miadhu has information that message exchanged between Mundhu and Dr. Shaheed were copied 4 other reporters.
