Gdh.Atoll Office has revealed the letter submitted by Thinadhoo residents requesting the authorities to find a lasting solution to the issue flooding caused by heavy rain, has been forwarded to the Gdh. Atoll Office.
Thinadhoo Office revealed that the residents face huge problems due to the sporadic flooding of the island caused by heavy rains and that in this regard many homes including household items and furniture are constantly being destroyed. Thinadhoo Office revealed that due to flooding on some areas of the island, the sewerage systems of the island had been damaged raising fears of health issues among the residents.
According to the Thinadhoo Office the letter high lights numerous issues faced by the residents as a result of floods and notes that this problem has been going on for many years. Thinadhoo office reports that the letter urges the authorities to find a lasting solution to the problem.
According to Thinadhoo Office the issue can be solved by establishing a proper drainage system on the island.
128 homes have been affected as a result of rains of yesterday, out of which 34 homes has no means of cooking.
Thinadhoo Office also says that in some areas flood water has reached heights of 2 feet and that draining work is carried out jointly by officers of Regional Fire Services and Thinadhoo Branch of Public Works.
