MP for Addu Atoll as well as member of the MDP Parliamentary Group Husnu Al Suood has said the only issue in establishing a transitional government in Maldives is that it has never been practiced in the history of the country. Husnu Al Suood mage the statement to Miadhu commenting on the statements made by Presidential Spokesperson Mundhu on Capital Radio alleging the Alliance of the opposition parties wants to establish a Bangladeshi type transitional government.
Acclaimed Lawyer Suood said transitional government has different meanings and that the Alliance intention was not to establish a Pakistani type government. He noted that the only difference between Pakistani and Bangladeshi transitional governments are the differences in procedures used in making the transition from old to new constitutions and differences in producers employed in holding multiparty elections.
“Points agreed by them in the formation of a transitional government states that an interim Parliament and officials to run the interim government must be specified” said Suood.
“The only issue here is that this have never been done, there has never been a multiparty elections in the history of Maldives, so we are on the verge of doing something we are not accustomed to” said Suood.
Suood further said the Maldives is facing major changes. “At a time when the country is facing major changes, the leader of a political party is the head of the 3 powers of the government, he is controlling the parliament, the judiciary and the armed forces, it is impossible to have a fair election in such an environment, we are worse situation than Bangladesh, President Maumoon is heading the 3 powers of the government” said Suood.
