All political parties, except ruling Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party, DRP have said that the deadline to complete amending the constitution by November 30 would not be met. As the deadline looms, people are vary of the fact that the constitution will not be finalized within the proposed timeframe.

DRP spokesperson Ibrahim Shaafiu said that the party is confident that the constitution will be amended before the deadline. He said that drafting committee is in the process of finalizing all draft chapters and would soon be submitted for final approval and amendments.

Opposition MDP says that with the 29 members appointed by the President, it would be difficult to formulate a constitution that would address all needs of the people. MDP spokesperson Maria Ahmed Didi said that there would be influence from the appointed members.

Adhaalath Party said that with the increased personnel attacks and assaults and procedural points being raised in the Majlis, it would be very difficult to achieve the deadline. However, Adhaalath said that it could be completed within days, if all members work sincerely and with commitment.

Maldivian Social Democratic Party also shares the same ideas and says that Majlis members need to cooperate and work closely to complete the work and if they need to meet the deadline, then working on everyday for 24-hours would also not allow completing the work.
