National Unity Alliance to start campaign

National Unity Alliance has said that they are to start a campaign in Male’ to give information about a transition government. This was revealed at a news conference held yesterday.

This campaign which is to start next Saturday will take place in all areas of Male’ and leaflets would be distributed in 20 areas of Male’, the alliance said. The Alliance also said that this campaign would end within 3 days.

Talking on behalf of the Alliance, MDP Chairperson Mohamed Nasheed said that campaign is going on now also in Southern atolls of Maldives and they have got about 6000 signatures from their trip to Northern atolls. Nasheed said that the signatures would be presented to the People’s special Majlis via the leaders of Political parties or by a letter from the Unity Alliance,

“We are sending a copy of those letters to Majlis members and to the President Maumoon abdul Gayoom for their information. In two different ceremonies, they would be handed over to President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and the majlis members. This would go on till the 1st or 2nd week of February” Anni said.

Speaking at the news conference, Mohamed Nasheed (Colonel) MP for Male’ in People’s Special Majlis as well as member of SLP said that they have got signatures of 45 MPs to form a transitional government and said that the number would increase. But he said that those names could not be presented to Media yet.

National unity Alliance visited the islands of North Maldives from 1st to 8th January inorder to gain support to form a transitional government.
