Cement price to go up

State Trading Organization, STO has reported that a cement shipment is expected to reach Male’ on September 15. However, the company says that the price of cement would go as high as 8 percent of the present market price.

At a news conference held the other day, Managing Director Mohamed Manik said that the cement stock in STO warehouses ran out recently. He said that there is a growing demand for construction materials in the region and that meeting supply requirements are difficult.

Questioned if STO is taking any measures to reduce about the rising prices of some food items for Ramazan, Mr. Manik said that consumer goods such as onion, potato and things that people would buy in huge quantities would be supplied by STO to make sure that prices are maintained at an affordable level.
